Weitlaner Retractor (self retaining)

This retractor was designed by Franz Weitlaner of Austria who was famous for designing instruments.

It has three prongs on one side and four on the other.

All these prongs are sharp in nature.

The prongs and teeth are of uniform size.

This retractor is smaller than Mollison's retractor.

Length is about 8 inches

It is used in:

1. Pediatric mastoid surgeries

2. Useful to retract soft tissues in Plastic and Orthopaedic surgical procedures

It is available in two variants i.e. one with sharp prongs and the other with blunt prongs.

Blunt pronged retractor can be used in neck surgeries.

Sharp pronged retractor can be used to retract soft tissue over bony structures.

A smaller version of this retractor is also available. This is useful while operating on children.
