Eustachean tube catheter

This is a metallic catheter with a curved proximal end and a ring at its base. The opening of its curved proximal end is at its tip. The length of this instrument is usually about 12 -15 cms. The presence of ring at its proximal end indicates the direction of the tip of the catheter.

The catheter was originally designed to test the patency of eustachean tube. Currently it is not used for this purpose.


Uses:

  • To test the patency of ET
  • To inflate the middle ear
  • To instill medications in the middle ear
  • To remove foreign bodies from nose
  • Can be used as a suction cannula
